Art from the Holocaust

Yad Vashem in Jerusalem is the world’s most important Holocaust memorial as well as a research and educational institution and documentation center. In an exceptional exhibition at the German Historical Museum in Berlin, 100 artworks from Yad Vashem’s wide-ranging collection were shown for the first time outside Israel.

The audio guide is a very special project in many ways. The guide was prepared through close collaboration with the curators from Yad Vashem and the Foundation for Art and Culture in Bonn.

To develop a suitable communication concept for this ambitious project, our author traveled to Israel for a special workshop. Based on the concept developed there, tonwelt produced a guide that presented the pictures to the visitors both as artworks in their own right and as documents of their time.

The well-known actors Iris Berben and Sylvester Groth voiced the German version for this special project.

With its audio tour tonwelt seems to have struck the right chord for this sensitive topic –which may be shown by the fact that several text passages were quoted by Chancellor Angela Merkel in her speech at the opening of the exhibition.
