Zoo on the Museum Island

Rembrandt? And Bugatti? The combination of names doesn’t sound like a natural fit? Sadly the creator of unique animal sculptures has been all but forgotten – except perhaps for his little elephant, which adorned the bonnets of luxury cars made by his brother Ettore. Or the panther, which instantly seems familiar...

But his other big cats, birds, antelopes, apes and dachshund “Wurst” are also well worth discovering!

From March to July the Alte Nationalgalerie and the Verein der Freunde der Nationalgalerie presents the first major international museum exhibition exclusively dedicated to the diverse work of Rembrandt Bugatti.

The master sculptor for who we have to thank for this rich animal kingdom was christened Rembrandt as if his parents had some kind of premonition about his talent. The tonwelt audio guide contains more information about his extremely creative life which was cut short.
